-- On July 21, 1845, a group of eleven Ursuline Sisters from northern France arrived in Saint Martin, Ohio. Their goal was to provide education for children. The sisters quickly established their boarding and day school and began classes in October of that year. Their identity so united with the spirit of their new environment that they became legally known as the Ursulines of Brown County. --
For over 60 years, the Ohio Historical Marker Program has championed our state's history. More than 1750 markers have been erected across Ohio by local community sponsors in partnership with the Ohio History Connection. These unique landmarks showcase the important people, places and events in our shared history.
